Tigger House Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to achieving a positive impact by reducing the death rate of heroin and opiate addiction.
ABOUT
Tigger House Inc. was inspired by the devastating suffering and profound love of a family who lost their son and brother “Tigger” at 25 years of age to an accidental overdose. Tigger House Foundation is based in Monmouth County. Tigger grew up on the Jersey Shore where he went to school, was loved by many friends and family and lived a very full life.
Tigger's family is active as philanthropists in the community. They have courageously decided to honor their son and take a resolute stand to fight the raging opiate/heroin epidemic devastating our youth.
PURPOSES
PUBLIC AWARENESS/EDUCATION: The most arduous and important undertaking of the Tigger House Foundation will be our ongoing commitment to establish a network of timely broad based information which will be disseminated to the community in all areas. The Foundation campaigns are designed to achieve our Mission: Achieving a positive impact by reducing the death rate of heroin and opiate addiction.
Opiate/Heroin Overdose and death among our youth has become the leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Despite the constant barrage of information in the press, radio, internet, and TV – many do not know the signs and symptoms of opiate abuse. Many do not even know that their next door neighbor has lost a beloved child to addiction. IT IS TIME WE END THE SILENCE!!! Our efforts will include but not be limited to: a web-site; newsletter and educational outreach seminars taught by leading medical and addiction experts in the field. Please stop in to our already established offices. As we grow – more and more for you, the community, we will appreciate reciprocal community support. SAFE ZONES FOR RECOVERY: There is an ever increasing demand for long term sober housing for recovering youth that Tigger House Foundation needs to provide. We are networking with as many community based recovery organizations as we possibly can as quickly as we can to establish a solid referral network for all individuals and families contacting the Foundation for immediate assistance.
LEGAL/TREATMENT: Tigger House Foundation has a well-established relationship with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Drug Court System. Although Opiate Dependence is a “treatable disease”, often our youth are criminally charged and heroin is an illegal narcotic. Tigger House Foundation is working with Law Enforcement in Monmouth County. Through mutual respect and cooperation together the Foundation goal is to achieve our Mission: Achieving a positive impact by reducing the death rate of heroin and opiate addiction.
On May 2, 2013, the “Overdose Prevention Act” (aka The Good Samaritan Law) was signed into law in the State of New Jersey. (N.J.S.A.2C:35:30; 2C:35-31). This law provides legal protection in the form of immunity from arrest, prosecution or conviction for a use or simple possession drug charge when a person, in good faith, seeks medical assistance for him/herself or for another. The request for medical assistance that triggers the law’s immunity feature may be made by means of the 911 telephone emergency system or by any other means. If you have the slightest concern, suspicion, uneasiness – DO NOT FEAR PROSECUTION OR ARREST, CALL 911. Your local Police and EMS and Emergency Room personnel are all needed to join us in our Mission: achieving a positive impact by reducing the death rate of heroin and opiate addiction.
The Law also allows (NJSA 24:6J-3) for distribution of NARCAN to individuals at risk or “members of their families or peers” who have received patient overdose information, instructions for administrations and are in a “position to assist” a potential overdose victim. All Police and EMS are required to carry Naloxone. If you do not know how or where to obtain an Emergency Kit, call and ask your local Police Chief and/or your Physician can write you a Prescription. Have your local Police and Family Physician join us in our Mission: achieving a positive impact by reducing the death rate of heroin and opiate addiction.
In New Jersey, the opiate/heroin overdose rate is three times the national average and climbing quickly. Our Mission though bold, is achievable – our children are depending on us all to achieve our Foundation goal.
