The Opiate Epidemic, Hidden in plain sight

It shouldn't surprise us that addiction can take hold among the best and the brightest students in high schools and middle schools; yet it does.

No matter how many of our neighbors are affected, the epidemic seems distant until it reaches home. Medical professionals compare opiate addiction to evolution in reverse because it turns nature inside out, making the strongest and brightest individuals the most vulnerable: the young, the healthy, the intellectually curious. Individuals in their late teens are physically resilient and their bodies may never be stronger. At the same time, they are predisposed to be curious and take risks, and their capacity for judgment is not fully developed.

... and Heroin is everywhere, hidden in plain sight.
